Happy New Day — Just One Day, Inspired by Calm

Several years ago, I started the year with a practice of extending warm wishes we use during the holidays. My greeting to friends was “Happy New Day!” and I posted it on social media. Over time, as can happen with practices and the best of intentions, I moved on to different greetings and placed less intention on this thought.

It is time for me to embrace each and every “Happy New Day” again.

Recently, during my mindfulness practice (using Calm — with Tamara Levitt) I was inspired by several of the thoughts and quotes that she shared.

Some of the phrases that really captured my attention, setting my mind and heart into a renewed enthusiasm and excitement: “pure possibility” and “in this moment of possibility;” “a spark of potentiality;” “marvelous unknown;” “brand new day;” “set aside rigid expectations;” and like a “curious child.”

THAT! CURIOSITY! Levitt said we could embrace each new day with the sense of amazement, contemplating, “I wonder what unexpected things might happen today.”

She encourages, “Gratitude… another opportunity to discover and learn. To live and breathe. To imagine and create. To care and love… soar with sense of service. What contribution will I make today? What qualities do I want to move into the day with: a generous heart, patience, self-compassion.”

“We are born in one day. We die in one day. We can change in one day. And we can fall in love in one day. Anything can happen in just one day. “— award winning author, Gayle Forman.
