Remember. Release. Be grateful.

These three prompts are great check-ins at any point in your day if you need to shift your thinking.

Remember.

It is so easy for some of us to get in and stay in a negative spin. One piece of “constructive” feed back can derail confidence. Research shows that it may take as many as 10 positive “wins” to shift your thinking. So, it is important to keep a good mental inventory of what you have done well.

Release.

In the process of recalling what you have done well, you will certainly encounter what I call “speed bumps” that slow you down. You may be holding on to that “hot coal” of negativity, thinking you will somehow snuff out the heat and damaging effects of your negative feedback loop. Let it go! Release what no longer serves you.

Learn. Be grateful.

With any positive or negative experience in your life and work there is always the opportunity to learn something. Stay curious about the treasured experiences and the trials in your life until you are certain that you have learned what you were meant to learn from them.

Once you have have those key learnings in perspective, then you will always have a thought of gratitude to return to about that experience.

At any given moment in your day you may need to call on one or more of these prompts to shift your attention, boost your confidence, settle feelings of disappointment or anger, or simple just center yourself in the moment.

These three prompts are the most basic architecture of work that I do with coaching clients whether they are individuals or organizations. We must be able to quickly identify what is working, what isn’t, and what we are learning.

Keep these in mind and let me know how they work for you.
