Valentine Version of Scrooge?

Yes. I’ve said I’m the Valentine’s Day version of Scrooge. Like many people, I see February 14 as a pretty fabricated holiday.

As a single guy most of my life, I’ve come to call it Singles Appreciation Day. Haven’t found that greeting card or box of chocolates yet!

Today, though, I’ve gathered some new insights about love. So I’ll celebrate love this month and hopefully each day, with these thoughts guiding me.

“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” — Romans 12:10 NIV

This verse came to me in a writing about family — both relatives and chosen family. I can easily see the application of loving ALL others and honoring all others. Easy to read. Harder to live by. But I’ll persevere! Goals!

Next, I have an app that I check pretty much daily. This is what popped up there today.

“Be impeccable with your word.

Replace fear with love.

The human mind is like fertile ground where seeds are continually being planted. When you are impeccable with your word, your mind is no longer fertile ground for the words that come from fear; your mind is only fertile for the words that come from love.” — don Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements

Replace fear with love! THIS!

I realize that so many times, my go to emotion when I’m simply uncertain or full on afraid, is NOT love. Uncertainty can prompt defensiveness. Fear can prompt anger or “fight or flight.”

I have my work cut out for me today and this month. EVERY. DAY. Again, goals!

Have a great, grateful, and LOVING Happy New Day!
